Originally a hit back in 1941 for the Andrews Sisters, this classic has stood the test of time and is hard to beat for its entertainment value. There are solos for trumpet and baritone sax in this outstanding chart that will appeal to your audiences and ensemble. Get out the saddle oxfords, bobby socks and pleated skirts for this one! The landmark album by Miles Davis, Birth Of The Cool, introduced the unique sound of the nonet instrumentation. The style is laid-back swing, and it includes solos for baritone sax, trumpet and piano, as in the original version. This slow and accessible swing arrangement, set at about 100 bpm, was written by Thad Jones for Count Basie's 1959 album entitled Dance Along with Basie. The chart opens with a short intro followed by the whole ensemble stating the melody. There is a trumpet solo and piano solo before the band comes back in. Here's a masterful rendition of this tune with great harmonies and swinging melodic lines. Dave Rivello. You know this great Mancini standard, but check out how the chart goes back and forth from F to A-flat. The swing feel is around 148 bpm, the solos are written for trumpet 2 and alto, the lead trumpet hits a written B-flat above the staff, and the vibe part will add a nice texture to the ensemble. The second chorus features the alto solo for the A section with sax section backgrounds, a sax soli for the bridge and then the ensemble for the last A section.
