Kyle Hargrove, a new chaplain in the US Army, has just arrived in a distant country on December 24th for his first assignment. Feeling lonely and unable to sense the presence of Christmas in this foreign place, he turns to the solitary object in his bare barracks: a trunk of books and papers left by the retiring chaplain he is replacing. Discovering a renewed comfort and joy through these voices past and present, Kyle comes to realize that true Christmas is not experienced through the presence of familiar objects or surroundings – but through the divine presence of Christ.
