golgotha
the gospel narrative:
The soldiers led Jesus to a place called Golgotha, where they crucified
him with two thieves, one on his right and one on his left. Jesus said,
"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Then
they divided his clothes and cast lots for them. All who passed by hurled
insults at him, shaking their heads, "Come down from the cross, if you are
the Son of God!"
From the sixth hour until the ninth hour, the sun stopped shining and
darkness covered the earth. In the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud
voice, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
And after he had cried out again, he died. At that moment, the curtain
of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and
the rocks split.
the lament of the lamb:
Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! They pierce
my hands and feet. I am despised by the people. They hurl insults, shak-
ing their heads. Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look around
and see. Is there any suffering like mine?
Lord, do not hide your face from your servant. You know how I am dis-
graced and shamed. Scorn has broken my heart and left me helpless. I
look for sympathy but there is none, for comforters, but I find none. I am
poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has
turned to wax; it has melted within me.
