SETTING: The musical takes place in the children's ministry area of a church. The kids arrive and are excited to see that Eugenia has begun decorating for Christmas in KidCity— their Christmas party. Set items include wrapping paper, gifts to be wrapped, a tree to decorate, and Eugenia's desk and props over to the side. A large picture of Eugenia holding a (THIRD place) trophy is on top of her desk. The stage is set with a two-dimensional cityscape backdrop outlined with colored Christmas lights and 'Christmas in KidCity' banners. PLOT: Children enter their Children's Ministry area as Eugenia is decorating for Christmas in KidCity. Everyone is excited except Izzy, who is alone and seems downhearted. Eugenia notices Izzy's sadness, and finds out that Izzy is ashamed of her real name (Izaiah, with a "z"). Eugenia, seeing this as another opportunity to teach the kids about the Old Testament Prophets (her specialty), begins recounting her days as a Bible Quiz queen, and eventually stays on track long enough to teach Izzy and the other kids about how the Old Testament Prophets point us toward the story of redemption through the birth of Jesus Christ. THEME: The kids in KidCity learn the theme of redemption by looking at how the Old Testament is connected to the New Testament through the writings of the Major and Minor Prophets. The kids are amazed that God "…showed Himself to us and set us free…" through the stories of the Prophets and the birth of Jesus Christ. They learn that Christmas is both a time to celebrate redemption AND that we are anticipating Jesus' return, which will be another great celebration. They also learn how to pronounce Habakkuk! COSTUMES: Kids in the choir may wear dark pants or jeans, a white long-sleeved t-shirt, and their KidCity t-shirt (available from wordmusic.com). Zach: leather jacket and jeans Eugenia: vintage/Nylon/Polyester Steve: sweater-vest with a white shirt and jeans Izzy: wears current clothes, but on the "hippie" side Joy: wears a dress; hair curled, make up, etc. Joe: dresses like Steve PROPS: Scene 1: Strand of Christmas lights among the other decorations "This is Gonna Be Big": box with mistletoe, angel for the tree, homemade halo, Christmas wreath Scene 2: Kids are working on decorating the Christmas tree as dialogue ensues; Eugenia's very large picture of herself with her Third Place Trophy "It's Still the Same Story": Prophet has a scroll Scene 3: Bible, small drum, megaphone, various clothing for Joy to pose in "How Do You Say Habakkuk": kids all have Christmas tree sunglasses; soloists have gold necklaces and handheld microphones Scene 4: Megaphone, Bible Scene 5: Bible Scene 6: Small drum 4 For Preview Only
