Scene 2 Scene 2 Sign bearer walks across stage with sign displaying date to audience: December 2 (Dad enters alone and begins to work on something—after a few moments, all Kids enter and approach him) TAYLOR: Hey Dad, are we almost done with the house? I thought we were going to be finished by December 1st? GABBI: Yeah! It's gonna be the perfect Christmas when the house is finished! DAD: Hey guys. I know we were trying to get things finished by the 1st, but sometimes things are… well, complicated. ALEX: Complicated? How? DAD: Sometimes things come up that you didn't plan for when you try to change or fix something. And it's never a good idea to rush when it comes to building or fixing things. Better to be patient and do it right the first time. MARCUS: That makes sense. One time I rushed to finish my volcano science project and it exploded everywhere before it was supposed to! DAD: You know, it's interesting that we need to be patient and wait on some things with the house right at the beginning of Advent. GABBI: What's Advent? DAD: Advent is the season we wait expectantly for the celebration of the birth of Baby Jesus, and prepare our hearts for that special time. ALEX: How long does it last? DAD: Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and lasts all the way until Christmas Day. TAYLOR: That seems like a long time to wait. What should we do in the meantime? DAD: Well, Advent has four weeks, and each week has a different theme. The first week is about the hope we have in the Lord, no matter what challenges we face. The second week is about the peace God gives us, so we don't need to worry or be afraid. The third week is about the joy of Jesus' birth, and the final week is about the love God has for us and our love for each other. MARCUS: So this week is about hope? DAD: Yes! And how perfect is that for what we are experiencing with the house! Even though we are facing difficulties, we have hope in God that everything will work out according to His plan. "Waiting" (Dad, Kids, and Choir sing and perform blocking/choreography, then exit)
