handbell choir, or a quick-to-learn yet musically
effective option for more advanced groups. The

I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say
KINGSFOLD
arr. Jefferey A. Hall.
The singing bell technique opens this haunting
and evocative arrangement of the hymn tune
KINGSFOLD. In the first half of the piece, a
quiet yet persistent eighth-note pattern adds a
wonderful counterpoint to the familiar melody.
Then the roles are reversed and the counterpoint
appears in the upper treble bells with the melody
being carried in the bass staff. Finally, both ideas
are blended with a simple yet exquisite outcome.
Optional 3 octaves of handchimes.

Joy Beyond Measure
Betty B. Radford.
A lyrical, energetic, passionate, and expressive
original, this creative work can be used in
secular as well as sacred settings. Written in
three sections; the first borrows briefly from
Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, but then the
direction flows to a 7/8 section. The last section
in 4/4 uses a Bach chorale theme over a flowing
bass before returning to a reflection of the
opening. The piece was commissioned to honor
someone who loved the familiar Bach theme
and was also an avid quilter, hence the title Joy
Beyond Measure.

Lord of the Dance
arr. Joel Raney, adapt. Joseph D. Daniel-Hoste.
Joel Raney's wonderful setting of the Sydney
Carter hymn is faithfully transcribed for handbells
and organ. The handbell score is mostly rung
and includes a variety of stopped techniques.
The middle legato section is rung entirely on
handchimes before bells are reintroduced through
the segue to the return of the lively opening
theme. This exciting setting is a wonderful
addition to the handbell and organ repertoire.
