Fred Gramann. This unique and creative setting of the American folk hymn Poor Wayfaring Stranger begins with only a hint of the tune in quarter notes while using the swing technique on sustained notes as the foundation for a gradual increase in energy. The piece becomes more compelling as dynamics and rhythmic intensity increase, culminating in three against two rhythms depicted on three staves. The main theme is not heard until midway through and is joined by a handchime countermelody that echoes and then inverts the bell melody. A return to the opening material brings the piece to an exciting and dynamic ending. 11607460 5 Octave Handbells . . L3-L4 6.25 Take the "A" Train Billy Strayhorn/arr. Hart Morris. This jazz standard creatively set for handbells features the melody in different voicings with judicious use of stopped sounds that make this into a must-have title for your bronze group. The rhythms are tricky, and clean execution of the ring touches and precise damping will make this setting sparkle. Jazz chords and accidentals abound, yet this is very accessible to advanced groups. 11607461 5 Octave Handbells . . . . .L5 5.95 11626199 5-7 Octave Handbells . . .L5 5.95 Threnody William A. Payn. Threnody (meaning "lament" or "elegy") is an outpouring of grief intermixed with celebration of a life well lived. Written in honor of a member of the Raleigh Ringers who lost her battle with cancer, it is a fitting challenge for any advanced group looking to stretch their musicality. 11595343 5-7 Octave Handbells . . .L5 6.95 11595344 Instrumental Parts Orchestral Chimes . . . . . . . . . 7.50 With Heart and Hand and Voices Cruger & Bach/arr. Fred Gramann. Johann Cruger's NUN DANKET ALLE GOTT combined with J.S. Bach's "Sinfonia" from Cantata 29 create a stellar musical interplay in the ultimate classical style. Rung throughout, this is a tour-de-force for advanced groups. The Sinfonia is made up of extended passages of 16th notes while NUN DANKET shines through in quarter and half notes. The contrapuntal interplay between the two unique titles is beautifully scored and groups will enjoy emphasizing the various distinctive lines as they weave in and out. The absence of articulations and a minimal number of accidentals belies the flawless technique and sheer musicianship this piece requires to be rung with clarity at tempo. A complex and fabulously gorgeous setting. 11583323 5 Octave Handbells . . . .L5+ 5.25 11583324 7 Octave Handbells . . . .L5+ 5.25 With Hearts and Hands and Voices arr. Brian Childers.
