A haunting medium swing groove- tenor sax as the melody and the solo space, and lead trumpet range is to written high C. This sultry blues tune by Bobby Timmons was made famous by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and makes a call and response swinger that should be part of every jazz library. It includes improvised solos for alto, tenor, trumpet or trombone. The ensemble section features some great ensemble writing based on famous solos from classic recordings. Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and there is also a substantial soli for the entire saxophone section. Optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and French horn. Billy Byers. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time by Basie, Billy Byers arranged a wonderful, easy-swinging masterpiece. Cleverly, he set this Mancini classic in 4/4 to accommodate the Basie band's iconic style. This is a terrific big band chart that belongs in every library right alongside I Can't Stop Loving You, Nice 'n Easy and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There's space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. This is oh, so nice and highly recommended! 10530081 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 n Moten SwingBuster & Benny Moten/arr. Ernie Wilkins. There have been a lot of published charts on this great Ernie Wilkins arrangement, but this is the original version as played and recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra. Moten Swing is possibly the most played piece of music by the Basie band and has been recorded countless times, making it a must-have for any band's library as it exemplifies wonderful roaring ensemble passages with soft, soft sections which will make your band sparkle. This new Finale edition includes a transcribed piano solo throughout, detailed rhythm section parts which are written except during the solos, and clearer, cleaner, more complete parts. Additionally, there is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano. 2387306 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 n Move (from Miles Davis' Birth of the Cool) Denzil Best/arr. Mike Tomaro. Recorded by Miles Davis on his landmark album Birth of the Cool, this jazz standard was composed by Denzil Best using the same chord changes as Count Basie's Jumpin' at the Woodside. This exciting chart features an up- tempo swing style along with a fabulous soli for the saxes. This one is a great introduction to the music of a jazz icon! 10522914 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 4 Mr. BigRich Woolworth. Painting the picture of the baddest dude in town, this medium-tempo D-minor blues chart swings hard from start to finish at a tempo around 144 bpm! With a mysterious air, the effective ensemble passages are accessible for most bands and the written or ad lib solos will show off your developing trombone and trumpet soloists while the band separates them with solid ensemble playing. Also included is an outstanding sax section soli with brass punches. Mr. Big is nicely unique and highly recommended! 10605794 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 4 Mr. MotoDan Torosian. Mr. Moto harkens back to the swinging big-band era featuring a Basie-ish piano melody. The brass take over for the bridge and the saxes finish out the first chorus. Clever key changes enhance the flavor of each section and solo changes are provided for trombone and tenor sax. As in the old days, the chart starts its shout chorus softly with a very cool sax section riff that is answered and built upon in the brass. The ensemble builds for one final key change as the lead trumpet brings us home with a high note, written A and B above the staff, feature. The trumpet range is to written high C, and the trombone range is to F with the tempo set at around 168 bpm. Highly recommended! 10605825 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 H NaimaJohn Coltrane/arr. Craig Skeffington. One of Coltrane's favorites and played by jazz musicians everywhere, this sweet bossa chart is magical. It opens with alto 1 on the written melody, then the sax section, followed by the brass taking the bridge. Features include a very nice, written tenor solo and lead trumpet range to written B-flat above the staff. Perfect for any jazz performance, you'll be delighted with Naima! Highly recommended! As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time By Basie, this Quincy Jones chart is a laid-back, swingin' masterpiece. It's a wonderful, classic big band chart that belongs in every library right along side I Can't Stop Lovin' You and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There is space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. You can't go wrong with this exceptional chart on Nice 'n' Easy! 10455874 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 l The NOLA RollerRoger Schmidli. The NOLA Roller is a rollicking, fun chart with a New Orleans style groove that your band and its audiences will enjoy. The catchy tune is shared by most of the band and there are effective development sections to keep things interesting. There's an optional, improvised open solo section accompanied by a simple riff for novice soloists. Chord/scale sheets are included for the soloists. Beginning full bore with the entire ensemble, One More Twice has a straight-ahead swing style that is unmistakable! The melody is passed from the saxes to the trumpets, and then the trombones take over on the bridge. Solo changes are provided for trumpet and trombone. An extremely hip a cappella section highlights the sax section, punctuated by the brass. The rhythm section brings it back to the bridge and final section of the shout chorus. Jeff Hest. This is the original Count Basie chart, recreated by Jeff Hest. Meticulously notated with Basie's simple but timeless piano solo, transcribed solos for first and second tenors, trombone, trumpet and bass, and the mother of all Basie swinging shout choruses, this is a classic that deserves a place in every jazz ensemble's repertoire!
