l Luck Be a Ladyarr. Billy May & Quincy Jones.
Among the many arrangements that have been
frequently requested by singers and enthusiasts,
the music written for Frank Sinatra and the Count
Basie Orchestra is high on the list. This original
version was arranged by Billy May and later adapted
by Quincy Jones. The primary difference is that the
Jones version eliminated the string parts. Beginning
with the verse slowly and freely stated, it blasts
into a swing style at around 200 bpm. The only
instrumental solo is alto saxophone filling behind the
vocalist in the first chorus. With the ensemble wailing
at its best, this is a must-have! Highly recommended!
