Here's an easy-to-play jazz waltz for the holidays with

Minor modes seem to work well wtih young players, and this
medium-slow swinger holds all the cards! The melody is played
in a call-and-response pattern while the shout chorus includes
solid, concerted figures. The features include a very easy grade
level, a completely flexible instrumentation, and written solos
included for all instruments. Use it to teach, use it to perform.

Red's Good Groove—Red Garland/arr. Terry White.
Here's a great-sounding, slow blues from master pianist and
composer Red Garland. This version for younger players
features tenor sax and trumpet on the head followed by the full
sax section with answers from the brass. It's a terrific piece
for young soloists, as well as a good style study for the entire
ensemble. Suggested solos along with chord/scale sheets in all
keys, plus written bass lines and piano voicings, and reduced or
expanded instrumentation options make this a perfect learning
vehicle for young jazzers!

Reunion Blues is the title track from the famous 1971 album
featuring Milt Jackson and Oscar Peterson, but over the years it has
been recorded by countless jazz artists. Set in a moderate straight-
eighth groove, this riff-based blues tune is perfect for younger
players. The saxes are featured the first time through with answers
provided by the brass. The written solo section can be performed
either as a trumpet section or by a single player. An easy ensemble
tutti rounds things out in this attractive and well-written chart.

Shuffle on Down roars right from the start and is a perfect
opener. The melody uses notes from the blues scale and is

written or improvised solos for all players, and is playable with
