You won't find a better ballad feature for your tenor

Too Close for Comfort—Jerry Bock/
arr. Gordon Goodwin.
A Gordon Goodwin vocal
chart! In addition to the vocal part, there are optional
solo feature parts for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet
or trombone for added flexibility. Gordon has
conceived this chart with the solo intertwined into
the fabric of the chart. The vocal keys are F, G and
Ab with modulations and the vocal range is low E
below middle C to Eb fourth space. As recorded on
The Phat Pack CD. An outstanding feature for your
singer or any horn player!

Well You Needn't—Thelonious Monk/
arr. Mike Kamuf.
This chart kicks! It's a shuffle at
around 166 bpm and is a feature for two tenor saxes.
This is not a duel, but a vehicle to showcase both
tenor players. Sample tenor solos are provided, the
lead trumpet range is to written high C-sharp, there's
a great sax soli and a roaring shout chorus. Optional
parts are included for expanded instrumentations.
Pure excitement and great for festivals!

BARITONE
SAX SOLO FEATURES
The Bari Thought of You—Peter Blair.
A lush, rubato introduction sets up the infectious
shuffle feel of this swingin' feature for baritone
saxophone. The solo is written or improvised
and the arrangement features nice band licks and
backgrounds, a sax soli, a tutti full band section
and an improvised or notated solo section.
The key selection of Ab ensures that all lines
lay well for the soloist and the ranges remain
moderate for all players. A guaranteed audience
favorite, this hard-hitting chart will become a "must
have" for bands with strong, sassy bari players.
Highly recommended!

Bari, Bari Good!—Andy Clark. Here's a super
chart to feature the sax player who hardly ever
gets the "good" parts! Your bari sax player will love
getting some air time in this gospel-rock chart! It
includes an open solo section for the bari sax, or
any other soloist of your choice. It's a very appealing
tune with a big solid sound.

4 Bari-ed Alive!—Erik Sherburne. Here's a
straight-ahead, rockin' bari sax solo feature set at
156 bpm. The ensemble has a lot of exposure and
the writing has a ton of style. The changes are a
variation on the blues form with a little bit of mixed
modes to give it just the right feel to suit the title.
The solo is entirely written, with some optional
sections for improvising. Your brass can bop and
dance in the background with their subtle hits
that set up the melody, making for an entertaining
performance to win over your audiences. If you
haven't had a bari sax feature for a while, then this
one will be a great choice!

Out Back of the Barn—Gerry Mulligan/
arr. Mark Taylor.
What better instrument to feature
on a bluesy "bump and grind" swinger like this than
baritone sax? Written in a medium slow 12/8 feel,
this chart will make your entire band sound great,
plus allow an often neglected player to really shine.
Suggested solo and scale/chord sheet provided.

Wave—Antonio Carlos Jobim/
arr. Michael Mossman.
Here's one of the most
tuneful of Jobim's many familiar Latin standards
in a marvelous setting featuring a baritone sax
soloist. The style is a laid-back Latin groove and the
arrangement includes a wealth of creative harmonic
and textural devices. To round things out, it also
includes a sax soli and a lush tutti ensemble chorus.
A great way to feature your bari sax soloist!

SOLO FEATURES
A Mis Abuelos—Arturo Sandoval/
arr. Michael Mossman.
More than just a
showcase for your lead trumpet, this monster chart
is a powerful statement for the entire ensemble.
Opening with the quasi flamenco strains and
followed by a melancholy trumpet solo, the first big
ensemble hit is guaranteed to move the audience
back a few rows! Great writing for all sections and
especially the rhythm section.

After Sunset—Larry Neeck. This tasty rock
ballad will feature your budding alto saxophone
or trumpet star in the best possible way. The fully
scored ensemble sections compliment the gorgeous
theme, and provide a solid foundation for your
soloist. The solo part requires no improvisation
and the chart is playable with optional reduced
instrumentation. A perfect concert or contest choice
to showcase the lyrical side of your jazz ensemble!

At the End of the Day—Paul Clark. At the End
of the Day is an exceptional ballad solo feature for
alto sax or trumpet/flugelhorn. The solo and rhythm
section parts are completely written and the ranges
are modest with the trumpets never leaving the staff.
The lush background parts are supportive for the
soloist and the key change near the end adds just
the right touch to this beautiful chart. Very nice!

Autumn Mist—Larry Neeck. Autumn Mist
features your aspiring trumpet/flugelhorn or alto
sax soloist in a gorgeous rock-ballad setting. The
solo parts are entirely notated, and the ensemble
sections provide contrast by featuring lush playing

in lyrical style. On your next concert, showcase
the softer, lyrical side of your band with this tasty
change of pace. Highly recommended! Optional

Back in Time—Pat Metheny/
arr. Bob Curnow.
Pat Metheny is known for
his beautiful melodies, and Back in Time is no
exception. Featuring a flugelhorn or trumpet soloist
throughout on a written-out solo with chords
included for improvisation, this arrangement is very
playable by the ensemble with its moderate ranges.
Originally recorded on the reissued Secret Story
CD, this arrangement is a great addition to Bob
Curnow's continuing reflection on Metheny's music.
Beautiful melody, beautiful chart!

Bye, Bye Blackbird—Dixon & Henderson/
arr. Dave Rivello.
Arranger Dave Rivello arranged
this great tune in a nice and easy, relaxed, swing
genre to showcase the 2nd trumpet in the style of
Miles Davis. Featuring the trademark Miles' harmon
mute sound throughout the chart, Dave provides
a written (or ad lib) solo, tasty backgrounds and
a very hip shout chorus for medium level players.
The arrangement is sensitive to the quietness of the
harmon muted trumpet sound. Feature your young
trumpet star on this one and have a "cool" moment
in your concert! Highly recommended!

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting
on an Open Fire)—arr. Mark Taylor.
One of the
most iconic holiday tunes of all time, The Christmas
Song as composed by Mel Torme and Robert
Wells is treated here in a masterfully constructed
setting featuring a flugelhorn soloist. In a traditional
ballad style, this arrangement features tasteful
accompaniment figures, creative harmonies, and brief
interludes of double-time swing in the solo section.

Feels So Good—Chuck Mangione/
arr. Victor Lopez.
Only rarely does a jazz tune
cross over to the pop charts the way this Chuck
Mangione classic did back in the seventies!
Flugelhorn solo on the 1st trumpet part is featured
throughout with the distinctive melody and then with
a written or ad lib solo along with a tenor solo. The
flugelhorn solo range is up to an optional written high
C, but the solo is cued on the 1st tenor part as well.
Victor's arrangement brings this contemporary gem
within the range of the developing trumpet player
without losing any of the hip appeal of the original.
Here's a perennially appealing, samba/rock chart that
will provide outstanding performance opportunities
for your band and soloist! Highly recommended!

Going Home—arr. Paul Clark. Here is a beautiful
and creative adaptation of the familiar theme from
Dvorak's "New World" Symphony. This arrangement
is just what you need for that ballad spot for any
performance. Written as a trumpet or flugelhorn solo
feature, it works equally well if you want to feature
an alto saxophone soloist. The frequently changing
harmonies and flowing counter lines keep things
interesting, and the limited ranges and easy rhythms
keep things simple. No worries here, this one is
highly recommended!
