Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard has sadly passed on but his wonderful music lives on. This wonderful jazz standard is masterfully arranged and features a haunting melody with an alternating bossa and light funk groove. The solos are written for piano, trumpet and tenor sax with modest brass ranges and a sweet shout chorus. It's been play- tested with great success and is an excellent chart all around! This appealing and light-hearted tune by Charlie Parker is treated here in a medium- tempo samba style. The definitive recording of this jazz classic is by Bill Evans, with other notable recordings by Cannonball Adderley and Joe Henderson. This really nice chart also includes very effective writing for all sections of the band as well as written or improvised solo space for alto sax. As with all Mossman charts, the rhythm section is meticulously notated to ensure the correct style. The 3/4 pattern throughout draws heavily on African influences and the melody is masterfully passed from section to section. Michael Mossman. Even though this is scored by Michael Philip Mossman for just six horns in the Little Big Band Series, the writing is sophisticated and full sounding. Written in 3/4, but featuring an Afro-Cuban 6/8 groove, this marvelous chart includes solos for tenor or trumpet. Popular New York jazz writer Andy Farber presents another great composition. This one is in the Duke Ellington mold and alternates between Latin and swing sections throughout. Lots of interesting ensemble writing make this chart a wonderful choice for contest, festival or concert performances.
