Bob Washut's Beneath the Mask is a very enjoyable, somewhat ECM-style chart for
proficient groups that features an even-eighth jazz waltz style that highlights lead alto
and guitar and/or piano on extended improvised solos. While trading 3/4 against 4/4
polyrhythms, this outstanding original contains tons of musical content with soaring
ensemble passages, dynamic contouring and rhythmic interest. The lead trumpet player is
showcased with some soaring lyrical lines, and all trumpets double on flugelhorn. This is a
colorful chart that will definitely be a favorite for better groups!

Fool Me Once is a very funky original by the great Gordon Goodwin, written at a more

blues scale. This chart features great ensemble writing, cookin' sectionals, and it really
starts to groove after the solos all the way to the end. Hopscotch is well written, exciting and

This great Carl Strommen original is a slow funk chart with a double-time feel at around 92

trumpet 2 parts. The solos are over only two chords and can use blues scales. Hunk o' Funk

Set in a genre all its own, Phase Dance is a Latin/fusion-style chart with exciting ensemble

rhythm parts are almost entirely written. Originally recorded on the first Pat Metheny Group
