With solid parts for all sections, Soulful Swagger stays true to the medium funky groove and has plenty of energy and driving ensemble sections to keep it cooking. The open solo section is over accessible changes followed by super brass writing before an additional solo by the guitarist. Adding to the excitement is a modulation up for the final section. Don't be intimidated by the meter... it's challenging, but after a few minutes it feels quite natural and the students will totally groove on it. The melody is stated by 2nd trumpet and 1st alto with solo space for both on easy chord changes. Articulation is critical and the rhythm section may want to spend some quality time together.
