Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart gave the jazz world this beautiful ballad, and arranger Mike Smukal sets it as a lush trumpet or flugelhorn solo feature. The entire solo is notated and can effectively be performed with no improvisation. It also features a wonderful double-time section with everything written out, easy ranges, some nice substitute chords and lush harmonies. ME 48.00 The Nearness of You—Hoagy Carmichael/ arr. Mark Taylor. Although the first hit recording of this enduring standard was by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1940, Hoagy Carmichael's The Nearness of You has remained popular through the ages with recordings by countless performers. Set here as a solo feature for flugelhorn or trumpet, the soft Latin/ballad style and lush accompaniment parts help make this one particularly attractive. The solo is completely written, and the soloist can improvise around the melody if desired. Here is an ideal way to feature an emerging soloist! 10522938 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 Night Mist—Larry Neeck. With a haunting melody, this minor-key ballad is the perfect feature for promising alto saxophone or trumpet/flugelhorn soloists. Summer Solstice is a soulfully cool ballad that features either a trumpet, flugelhorn or soprano saxophone soloist with solo parts included for each. Beautifully relaxed in straight eighth-note style, it's well-crafted with the solo parts entirely written with optional improvisation opportunities. The solo part offers interesting chord changes while the ensemble is more than a simple accompaniment. Nice, unique and more contemporary than most solo features! 10607110 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 48.00 Summertime (from "Porgy and Bess")— George Gershwin/arr. Dave Rivello. This medium swing trumpet solo feature contains tons of jazz substance! Arranger Dave Rivello captures the distinctive "Miles Davis-Harmon Mute" sound in this outstanding chart that features both the band and soloist "a la Miles." M 52.00 H I Got Rhythm—George Gershwin/ arr. Dave Wolpe. Wow! If you have a hot trombone player in your band, you've got to check out this chart! This thing smokes from beginning to end, and it just gets better and better as it unfolds. It's got the classic Gershwin sound, the incredibly skillful writing of Dave Wolpe, and plenty of space for your lead trombone player to strut his or her stuff! The solo trombone part sits at the medium-advanced level. 2474250 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . MA 60.00 I'm Getting Sentimental Over You— George Bassman/arr. Rick Hirsch. Here's a wonderful update of Tommy Dorsey's classic theme song. It's totally playable by high school jazz bands, yet it also sounds great with college and professional groups. It's written as a trombone feature throughout (with optional solo parts included for B-flat and E-flat instruments), although super- high Dorsey-esque chops are not required. The solo is mostly written with a section of improvising around the melody and ad lib fills at the end. Alternate solo parts for trumpet and saxophone are included, as well as optional parts for Clarinet, Flute, Vibes, and French Horn (doubling the Trombone 1 part). Bass trombone players can count on one hand the good charts available for their instrument. Well, here is one of the best yet arranged by Dave Wolpe in the style of the great George Roberts. With a medium-swing feel, this showcase will bring out the best in your bass trombone player with no improvisation, just written melody. There is some written or improvised jazz for 2nd trumpet in harmon mute, and the lead trumpet has a unison line to written high E. A nice sax soli is the icing on the cake. An outstanding feature chart! 10071915 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . MA 60.00 Secret Love—Sammy Fain/arr. Dave Wolpe. Featuring the trombone section, Dave Wolpe's chart on Secret Love just cooks and cooks! All four trombone parts have written-out solo sections, there's plenty of section work and nice ensembles too. The lead 'bone range is to high Bb and lead trumpet is to written B above the staff. This is an accessible and terrific chart to showcase your trombones. Highly recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10071747 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . M 52.00 H Spring Can Really Hang You up the Most— Tommy Wolf/arr. Kris Berg. Here's an outstanding Kenton-style ballad that showcases the lead trombone and the trombone section. The chart builds during a 12/8 section that makes it an even stronger choice as an excellent ballad feature. There are no improvised solos and lead trumpet range is to written C above the staff with an optional D sharp. This one is a wonderful jazz ballad with a twist! 10011988 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . MA 60.00 Summer Never Ends—Bill Liston. Wow, here's a funk ballad that features your trombone soloist with a completely notated solo along with provided changes. The solo part floats over the band and remains legato against the band's funk grooves. An optional, extended improvisation section for the trombone soloist is included.
